Review: Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter

Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter
Chapel Spring: Book two
Thomas Nelson / 2014

About the book:
Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she’d never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He’s loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she’s back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she’s hiding secrets from her family, and she’s strangely attracted to the man who’s always called her “squirt." Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

My thoughts:

Dancing With Fireflies is the second book in the Chapel Spring series and another great story. Contemporary Romance is not a genre I gravitate towards; but, I've read several great ones - including this latest from Denise Hunter.

From the first couple pages my attention was snagged and from then on I didn't want to stop reading - it was just SO good! Something major happens in the prologue of Dancing With Fireflies that made me feel for Jade and, as the story continued, I couldn't help but start to feel for Daniel, too. He seemed like such a great guy, in spite of the things that slightly frustrated me (they just made him human and not so perfect). ;)

I want to talk more about the story, but I can't think of how to do that without giving away a main plot point. So, I'll stop by saying that I loved this book. At times some of the romance was a little much, but it was still a really great story. I recommend Dancing With Fireflies to fans of this genre.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8
